Clock Repair Problem Solving - New, 2025 Release!
by Steven G. Conover, FNAWCC
Clock Repair Problem Solving is a guide for those who would like to learn how to make basic repairs and adjustments to antique pendulum clocks. The author explains that many of the old clocks found online, or in antique stores and flea markets, will need repair. To research the book, he collected a dozen reasonably priced clocks. These included several 19th century American striking shelf clocks, an early 20th century German clock with the escapement visible in the dial, and two clocks with Westminster chimes. Each time he brought one home, he checked the mainsprings or hung the weights and started the pendulum swinging. Every clock had problems! One clock did not keep going, and the next one would not strike. Still another kept on striking and wouldn’t stop. After locating the problems in each clock, the author describes each step of the repairs. He uses clear photos to identify the parts and shows how they fit together.
As a bonus, he shows how to reassemble each movement and adjust the strike mechanism. He also introduces the next level of repairs by showing how to use a bushing tool and a mainspring winder. Clock Repair Problem Solving features the author’s easy-to-use 8-1/2” x 11” format with spiral binding that opens flat on the workbench. There are 128 pages including 293 photos and an index.
