Book 10 Electric Clocks: Clockmakers Newsletter Workshop Series
by Steven G. Conover, FNAWCC
The book begins by explaining safe work practices. For example, the reader is urged to check the wiring before plugging in an electric clock that has been brought in for repair. Chapter 1 covers Telechron rotor repair or replacement and includes articles on G.E., Herschede and Revere movements containing them. Chapter 2 covers several Seth Thomas electric movements and their motors. For example, instructions are given for cleaning and lubricating the A-300 motor manufactured by Seth Thomas. Another feature describes how to disassemble, clean and reassemble the small mainspring assemblies contained in Seth Thomas electric chiming and striking movements. Chapter 3 presents a selection of other movements including Sessions, Golden Hour, Kit-Cat, and Hamilton-Sangamo. Chapter 4 covers in detail several electromechanical clocks such as an International Master Clock, a 1950’s car clock, and clocks by Wallace Electric, Poole Manufacturing Co., and Kundo. This 112-page book has 228 photos and drawings and an index. The page size is 8-1/2 x 11 inches, with card stock covers protected by clear acetate. The plastic comb binding allows the book to lie flat on the workbench for easy reference.
